EMMA EGAN

Emma Egan tattoo artist working at Save Point Tattoo Brisbane, specialising in colourful illustrative and anime-inspired tattoos

Emma Egan is a Brisbane tattoo artist at Save Point Tattoo, best known for her bright, character-driven tattoos that blend anime, gaming, and pop-culture influences with a soft, neo-traditional edge. Her work transforms beloved characters and pets into expressive, colourful designs, each one rich with personality and heart.

Emma began tattooing in late 2013 at just 18 years old, starting in a busy street shop where she honed her technical foundations through walk-ins, lettering, and symbols. Over time, her interests pulled her toward more artistic and illustrative tattooing, first through neo-traditional work, and eventually into the world of anime and gaming-inspired art that felt like home.

“It wasn’t until a client asked for a Pokémon tattoo that I reconnected with the kind of art I loved as a kid. That moment changed everything.”

As a child, Emma spent hours drawing superheroes in comic-book panels, inventing her own characters, and soaking up inspiration from Saturday morning cartoons and anime like Mew Mew Power on Cheez TV. That early love of storytelling and character design continues to shape her work today, every tattoo she creates feels like a snapshot from a vibrant animated world.

Artistic Style & Approach

Emma’s style sits at the intersection of neo-traditional and anime-inspired tattooing, using bold linework, smooth gradients, and a painterly sense of colour to bring each piece to life. While she initially trained in realism and graphic work (influenced by artists like Sara Fabel), her creative voice found its stride in bright, expressive designs rooted in her own passions.

Her current focus is on custom “anime-ified” pet portraits — turning clients’ dogs, cats, and even raccoons into adorable, stylised anime characters. Each piece captures not just the likeness of the animal, but their personality; playful, mischievous, or heroic with soft shading, sparkling eyes, and detailed costume work that makes every tattoo feel one-of-a-kind.

“I love taking a pet’s quirks and reimagining them as an anime character; it’s the perfect mix of emotion, nostalgia, and fun.”

Technique & Inspiration

Over the years, Emma’s technical precision has become one of her signatures. She gravitates toward finer needlework and tight line control, often using round shaders and small mags to create smooth, delicate textures. Her pieces are full of clean detail and layered colour packing — a technique partly inspired by watching Italian tattooer Brando Chiesa, whose crisp anime-meets-fashion aesthetic encouraged Emma to embrace small-scale, high-detail tattooing.

Her tattoos often feature bright characters, cute animals, or pop-culture icons, but what ties them together is a focus on emotion and craftsmanship. Whether it’s a tiny raccoon splashing in water or a full-colour anime sleeve, every tattoo is approached with patience, balance, and a love for storytelling.
